Ideal Weight Calculator

Compare ideal weight ranges using Robinson, Miller, Devine, and Hamwi formulas, then pair the result with BMI and healthy weight guidance.

Ideal weight inputs

Choose your sex and height to compare four clinical formulas.

Formulas use different starting points for men and women at 5 feet tall.

How ideal weight formulas work

Ideal weight formulas estimate a midpoint weight based on height and sex. Robinson, Miller, Devine, and Hamwi each start with a baseline at 5 feet (60 inches) and add or subtract a fixed amount per inch. We show a ±10% range around each midpoint because healthy weights vary with frame size, muscle mass, and health history.

Why there are multiple ranges

  • Robinson (1983): A conservative baseline used widely in clinical settings.
  • Miller (1983): Slightly higher midpoints, often aligned with broader frame sizes.
  • Devine (1974): Classic formula for medication dosing in hospitals.
  • Hamwi (1964): An early formula that trends higher for men at taller heights.

Using your result

Treat these ranges as reference points rather than strict targets. Pair them with BMI, waist measurements, and how you feel day to day. For a broader view, compare your ideal weight range with the Healthy Weight calculator and your BMI category.
